LARP 2009-2010
The Larp program finished up this year at Georges' Island. Below is a slideshow of featured pictures from the day!
Winter/Spring Sports Workshop
Led by Paul, this workshop will start as Basketball Clinic but might change
into a spring sport toward the end of the session dependent on weather and
interest of the students.
Dungeons and Dragons
A continuation of a favorite one of our enrichment programs, students play
the D & D roleplaying game and while doing so they learn skills related
to working as a team, problem solving, social science skills, and art andwriting
skills, as well as math and science skills that are integrated into the game.
They also use their imaginations in a powerful way. Students love this game
and it is a great platform for enrichment to be introduced to them.
Creative Corner
Led by Jeana with the assistance of our many other artistic staff members,
in this workshop students will have the opportunity to explore different mediums,
learn new techniques and have fun expressing themselves. Mediums to be covered
will range from scrapbook making and colloguing, to basic sculpture in clay
and wire, drawing techniques ( perspective, gesture, contour, shading), learning
how to stretch our own canvases and color mixing and painting. This class
will focus on learning new artistic techniques, giving students a chance to
try different practices while valuing the unique creativity each student posses
and encouraging the self-reflection process.
Yoga Workshop
Will focus on basics of the art and practice of yoga, such as centered, controlled
breathing and slow, gentle stretching, but will then look at a variety of
yoga techniques in order for students to find what works for each of them
as a form of exercise and of stress reduction. This class will be primarily
led by Alex, another of our Lesley Interns.
Arlington Today and Tomorrow
We’ll be using digital cameras to capture images of our favorite local
spots. After printing our pictures, we’ll refer to them to create drawings
and paintings that depict what we imagine that spot will look like one hundred
years from now. Can you imagine Spy Pond in the year 2107? The class will
culminate with an exhibit of our poster-sized artwork.
